Meet Oliver Parsons - motor finance specialist apprentice

Oliver joined Secure Trust Bank as a motor finance specialist apprentice after spending a year studying sports and exercise science at university and working part-time.

What attracted Oliver to the apprenticeship?

I spent a year at university and then realised that I wanted to get a job with good career prospects which apprenticeship schemes seemed to offer me.  The topics covered by the Motor Finance Specialist apprenticeship were interesting and varied, leading me to apply.

What has Oliver’s journey been to date?

I had an extensive induction process - meeting all the other new starters, senior staff and teams on the motor finance floor.  I then studied business procedures and key pieces of legislation before taking the SAF Expert Test, which I passed first time!

The apprentices then met with Calibre, our training provider, for a week of training on the motor finance market which was really insightful.  Shortly after, I joined the Motor Customer Service team, listening into calls and learning how to use the systems.  After six weeks I was taking calls myself and working with my manager to see where I could improve.  I have one or two half days a week to study.

Overall it’s been a stimulating and enjoyable experience so far.

What is next for Oliver?

I will be moving to join the Payouts team and then Collections, whilst continuing studies with Calibre.

What does Oliver like about the job and the apprenticeship?

The apprenticeship is really well structured and encompasses most of the key motor operational aspects of the business.

Where does Oliver see himself in five-years?

I see myself staying at Secure Trust Bank in a role where I can use all of the knowledge I would have gained over the apprenticeship.
