Our decision to sponsor is based on our strategy to reach many more independent dealer groups. The majority of SAF users are from franchised dealer groups, but we know that there are many more independent dealerships in operation whose staff are not yet using SAF.
As part of the FCA’s exploratory work on motor finance the regulator conducted an extensive mystery shopping exercise. Its final findings report on motor finance notes:
“Most brokers in our sample appeared to make sufficient efforts to establish customers’ change cycles, ownership/usership preferences and budget.
By retailer type, this was generally the case for franchised retailers and car supermarkets. Online brokers performed well too. Independent retailers performed less well. This may in part reflect the respective investments made in staff training by the different industry sectors”
We will also be working with industry partners over the next year to improve take up of SAF within independent dealer groups.
